Yachats, "Gem of the Oregon Coast," is a small community nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Coast Range.
Its population is still under 700 as permanent residents, but the area is filled with vacation homes.
The commercial center of historic Yachats is just north of the Yachats River estuary which sports an extensive sand beach,
unusual along this black basaltic coastline.

Jim Gibbs was a lighthouse keeper, maritime historian, and author. This, his home, was the first privately owned working lighthouse in Oregon.
Gibbs passed away April 30, 2010.

This used to be the old Yachats School that my mayoral administration bought from the Lincoln County School District.
We turned it into a community center, public meeting house, gymnasium, playground, and wetlands park.
